Written by: Michelle Vales

Yeehaw! Frontier Day is just around the corner, and it's shaping up to be a rootin', tootin', good time on September 23, 2023! Saddle up and get ready for a day full of fantastic contests and good ol' fashioned fun that's sure to make Plainview come alive with excitement.

Here's a roundup of the thrilling activities that await this year's Frontier Day.

Mr., Ms., Little Mr., and Little Miss Frontier Day Contest:

Folks, it's time to channel your inner Wild West spirit and strut your stuff.

Dust off those old wild west frontier dresses and dapper duds because this contest is calling your name. Dress up the children, the babies, and even the grands and great grands for this one. The stage is set for a showdown of frontier style and personality. Registration kicks off at 8 am, and when the clock strikes eleven, it's your moment to shine! And hey, if you manage to snag a title, you'll be holdin' it high for a whole year. Now, I reckon that there gives you braggin' rights!

Log Sawing Contest:

Do you reckon you've got the muscle and the stamina to outsaw the competition?

Round up a partner and head on over to the log sawing contest. This ain't your everyday lumberjack showdown—this is about proving you're the fastest log sawer in all of Plainview! Swing that saw, show your grit, and maybe even walk away with a trophy at the end of the day to show off your skills. Remember, it's a contest that goes on all day, so make sure to fuel up and give it your all.

Hay Bale Toss Competition:

Think you're as strong as a stampede of bulls? Well, partner, here's your chance to toss some hay and prove it! The hay bale toss competition is where the heavy lifters gather to see who can heave a bale of hay the highest. Sponsored by Plainview's City Hall, this event ain't just for show—the winner walks away with their name on a shiny plaque displayed in City Hall. And as if that wasn't enough, there's a monetary award to sweeten the deal. So, roll up your sleeves and get ready to toss that hay high between Noon and 1pm!

Fancy Car Show:

Now, rev up those engines and polish your chrome, cause the fancy car show is heading to town. Sponsored by the Plainview Free Will Baptist Church Youth, registration starts at 9 am, and the judging kicks off at 11. The Car show will have 5 different categories with a 1st place winner in each category. And, motorcycles will be in one category with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. It's a chance to show off your wheels and see who's got the slickest ride in town. It's gonna be a treat for the eyes, that's for sure!

Silent Auction and Raffle:

Hold onto your 10-gallon hats, 'cause there's more! Plainview AR Community Events is hosting a Silent Auction from 10am to 2pm. Get ready to bid, compete, and maybe snag some fantastic treasures to call your own. And for those who've got luck on their side, there's a raffle for a 15-foot Todd Huckabee Signature Series Ghost Crappie Rod, thanks to Mrs. Sheila Ferrebee, the new owner of Carter Cove Bait-N-More. With tickets at just a buck each, or 6 for $5, and 12 for $10, it's a chance to win big while supporting the Two Rivers Backpack program. That's a deal you just can't pass up!
